Frequently asked questions

Cost and certificates

How much does the abacus teacher training course cost?

The Basic course, its assessment and its certificate are free. Intermediate costs ₹5,000 and Advanced costs ₹7,500. There is no special exam or certificate fee on any of the three courses.

Is the certificate really free?

Yes, for the Basic course. There is no exam or certificate fee. Intermediate and Advanced also have no exam or certificate fee, but those two courses themselves are paid.

Is the certificate recognized by the government?

There is no centralized government board or statutory university in India that exclusively controls or issues Abacus teacher licenses. Any organization claiming otherwise is misrepresenting facts. Private institues have been issuing certificates in this field for decades now. You should look for expertise of the people in the business and then assess if you want to train under them.

Starting to teach

Why complete Intermediate and Advanced stage if I have a Basic Certificate?

Students stay with a teacher who can guide them through every level. A teacher who stops after Level 2 would eventually lose students to someone who can teach Levels 3 to 6. Completing all three certificates lets you keep your students with you for the whole journey.

When should I take Intermediate and Advanced?

Plan to finish Intermediate before your first students reach Level 3, which is usually around month 6 to 9. Plan to finish Advanced before they reach Level 5, around month 10 to 15. Students spend about 2 to 3 months on each level, so there is time to study while you teach.

Which student levels does each course prepare me for?

Basic prepares you for student Levels 0 to 2. Intermediate covers Levels 3 and 4. Advanced covers Levels 5 and 6.

What will my students need to buy?

Students will need an abacus and practice books, which are an extra cost on top of your class fee. They can buy these from us at nominal charges or buy them online.

How the training works

How many months does it take for the abacus course?

Basic course on PracticeAbacus.in takes 3 to 7 days at your own pace. Intermediate and Advanced take about 45 to 60 days together based on your pace of learning, and you can study them while teaching.

Why does teacher training take only days when students need months?

The teacher and the student have different jobs. As a teacher, you only need to learn the method, explain it clearly and guide students as they work, checking that they are applying it correctly. That can be learned in a few days.

The student’s job is practice, and practice is where the real magic happens. Speed and accuracy come from repetition, and repetition takes time. That is why students spend about 2 to 3 months on each level.

Do I need to practise until I am fast on the abacus myself?

No. Practice is much harder for an adult than for a child, because adults already have well-established ways of calculating, and those habits compete with the abacus method.

A child at this age is only just being introduced to arithmetic, so they practise with a clean slate and every session goes straight into building speed. You need to understand the method well enough to demonstrate it and correct mistakes. You do not need to match your students’ speed.

What does an abacus teacher actually do in class?

You introduce each new technique, demonstrate it, watch how students apply it and correct mistakes early. Students then practise between classes, and PracticeAbacus tests and progress tracking show you where each child needs more help.

How does the human-invigilated assessment work?

Our team coordinates slots once you finish the modules. The assessment is in English or Hindi, and the certificate is issued in English. Intermediate and Advanced also end with an invigilated assessment and certificate. There is no fixed pass mark to memorise: a team member helps you prepare, and retakes are arranged at your convenience.

Do I need a physical abacus or a maths background?

A virtual abacus is built in, and no maths degree is needed. Physical abacus tools, practice books and class branding are optional extras at nominal charges, and none of them is needed for the Basic course.

Do I need to log in?

The first three modules open without login, with a fair-use limit. A free account gives you uninterrupted access.

Earnings and students

What is the salary of an Abacus teacher in India?

The salary of an abacus teacher in India typically ranges from ₹10,000 to ₹75,000 per month, depending heavily on whether the position is part-time, full-time, or run independently. Teachers catering to international students can earn in the higher end as the awareness of Abacus based mental maths is growing across the globe.

Will PracticeAbacus provide me with students?

The Teacher Partner Program has no charge, and registered teachers may be considered for suitable referrals. Referrals are not guaranteed, and teachers who actively use PracticeAbacus to run their classes are preferred. You set and collect your own student fees; PracticeAbacus does not manage fees, refunds or disputes.

What checks apply before a teacher receives referrals?

We look the performance of the students under the given teacher, their quality of teaching, the language and time-zone fit. These checks help us send enquiries to teachers who can serve them well.

Which regional languages are needed, and can I apply if I teach only in one?

Yes, you can apply. Teachers in regional languages such as Marathi, Tamil and Telugu can get more opportunities through the Teacher Partner Program.
